Pascal Magis was born in
Aurillac, France in 1955 and spent his childhood in
Meyrals, a village in the Perigord Noir. He studied
art at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs de Limoges
from where he attained his Diploma National des Beaux Arts
in 1976. He was very talented in all areas of art,
but concentrated his artistic creativity on working with
tapestries. He then returned to Meyrals where he
converted a barn into a studio and gallery, holding
exhibitions with other artists in the gallery every
summer. His work was warmly received by the press
and the public. In 1983 he was commissioned to
create ten tapestries based on Michele Venture's designs,
of which six were exhibited in New York, and in these
tapestries his work became more colourful and increasingly
abstract. This was the catalyst that led him back to
the canvas and to painting. Like all great artists
his work is in a constant state of evolution.
For this year's exhibition
Pascal, now fully recovered from a recent maladie, is back
to painting with his old vigour and enthusiasm. His
current paintings display a combination of all the
positives in his art over the past twenty years and
contain the qualities of colour, harmony, movement and
spontaneity that have made him one of the world's great
abstract artists.
He exhibits internationally
and his work is in many private and corporate collections.

ANDRÉ RAFFIN

André
Raffin was born in 1927 in Evreux, France. He was one of
the distinguished artists of the Ecole de Normandie, who followed in the footsteps of Eugene Boudin, Raoul
Duffy, Orthon Friez and the great Monet himself.
He
had his frist exhibition at the age of twenty in the Salon
D'Automne, Paris, and was a professional artist from
thereon, winning several prizes most notably 'Le Priz de
la Jeune Peinture' in 1954 and again, in 1964.
During his long and successful career he exhibited in many
parts of the world but until 2002 not in the U.K. Sadly
André passed away in January 2005.
